Tankah

Into the mighty jungle

Tankah is 300 hectares of majestic nature in the heart of the Riviera Maya. It is also a community of 45 Mayans. As a result, a trip to Tankah has all the ingredients to get that holiday feeling: adventure surrounded by nature, local food and  a glimpse of the Mayan culture.

In this ecotourism project we will visit 4 incredible (mainly open but all diverse) cenotes. Each of them with their own charm and different activity.

The “Cave” is an open cenote surrounded by abundant vegetation like water lilies.  To get your trill, you can jump off the cliff or swing at the tripachanga (a liana-style zip line) with a 4-meter free fall.

The second is a semi open cenote called “Piranha”. It received its name because it  is inhabited by Garra Rufa fish, also known as “Spa fish”. If you stay still they’ll give you a free peeling. At the covered part, we can also admire some fruit bats, other regular habitants of the sinkholes.

Walking further at the park trails, we will get to “Naval”. “Naval” is THE largest open cenote in the Riviera Maya. It’s so big it gives the impression to be a lagoon. To cross it, it has 3 exciting zip lines. Getting to the other extreme, we will enjoy paddling back in the canoe. This cenote is also perfect for some bird watching and turtle spotting.

And to finish with the icing on the cake, we still have cenote “Azul” (blue cenote). A crystal clear open cenote where the emerald and turquoise colors will mesmerize you. The best spot to swim or snorkel, admiring its beautiful underwater gardens.

Hungry from all the fun, we get our lunch in the friendly Mayan village. The buffet prepared and served by the local ladies includes typical dishes as chicken pibil, poc chuc and handmade tortillas… A great way to end our day.
